Fernando Mendoza
The transformation of a literal reality into one of a magical character
that is filled with uncommon elements and intriguing situations, is the intention of my
work. My imagery takes form from elements of mythology and symbolism of the Mexican
cultures, especially of vernacular objects and rituals, Pre-Colombian Art and Spanish
colonial environments. As in a baroque piece of theatre, they play in atmosphere of
emotional tension and insightful drama. It pulls the viewer into the intriguing scene.

Being born and raised in Mexico, I recognize my greater influences in
the Mexican modern school of art, led by the masters of muralism and the idiosyncrasy of
the people of my country. Because of my living in Guadalajara for several years, my
creative expression remain within the current Mexican tradition.
